Athom B.V., the company behind Homey has officially announced that Homey has achieved Matter 1.5 certification. The certification applies to Homey’s core software starting with firmware version v13.3.0, and it rolls out immediately across Homey Pro (2023 to 2026), Homey Pro mini, and Homey Self-Hosted Server.
What’s New in Homey’s Matter 1.5 Update?
While earlier Matter releases focused primarily on core smart home categories such as lighting, smart plugs, door locks, sensors, and basic climate controls, Matter 1.5 significantly shifts focus toward energy management and domestic appliances.
Key device types unlocked in Homey’s implementation include:
- EV Chargers & Wallboxes
Enables standardized local monitoring and basic charge control without requiring proprietary cloud APIs. - Heat Pumps & HVAC Units
Brings native telemetry and operational control for modern heating and cooling systems. - Solar Systems & Inverters
Exposes real-time generation data and inverter metrics natively to the Homey automation engine. - Large Household Appliances
Native control integration for dishwashers, laundry dryers, microwaves, and smart ovens.
Cameras were part of the Matter 1.5 spec, but are not in Homey’s current implementation. The company has indicated that camera support is planned for a future update rollout with Matter 1.6. By adopting these device types natively over local protocols (Wi-Fi/Ethernet or Matter over Thread via built-in Thread Border Router), Homey reduces reliance on cloud-connected integrations and makes things easier for its users.
Which Homey Smart Hubs Are 1.5 Certified
Homey has never been just a Matter controller. Homey Pro is an advanced hub that supports Zigbee, Z-Wave, Matter, Thread, Bluetooth, Infrared, 433MHz, and Wi-Fi smart devices. It can talk directly to thousands of devices from various different brands. Homey Pro mini is a lighter version, removing all that and providing Zigbee and Thread with Thread Border Router functionality. The latest addition to their line-up, Homey Self-Hosted Server, allows you to run Homey from your own hardware or your own server.
The Matter 1.5 certification applies to all three:

The brand also has its own Matter Bridge app, which allows you to expose devices as Matter accessories to other platforms. That list includes Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, and Home Assistant. Homey keeps talking to the original device over its native protocol, and the receiving platform only sees the Matter side of things. Right now that covers lights, smart plugs, thermostats, locks, window coverings, and sensors, though what actually shows up depends on the platform you are bridging into.

While major ecosystems like Apple Home and Google Home take months or even years to adopt newer Matter revisions, Athom getting Homey certified to Matter 1.5 ensures users aren’t left behind. The biggest practical gain here is native, local energy management and device control.
